An Analysis of the Application of Fun Teaching in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language

Abstract: Interesting teaching refers to the use of innovative and interesting teaching concepts, methods, and techniques to create a positive, interesting, healthy, and engaging classroom atmosphere, allowing students to experience the joy of learning in a pleasant atmosphere, and thus cultivating their educational concept of independent and active learning. We need to inject fun, knowledge, and cultural elements into Chinese character teaching, arouse international students' enthusiasm for learning Chinese characters, and inherit the brilliant Chinese character culture.

At the same time, this also provides new opportunities for teaching Chinese as a foreign language, such as using modern technological tools to improve teaching methods and strengthening international cooperation. Fun teaching is a great method, and the concept of fun teaching originated from the concept of "educational games" proposed by Lincoln Robbs in the 1960s. In these years, he defined game based education as "a form or method of learning that is not limited by national or social will." With the continuous development of technology, teaching methods have become more diverse and interesting. It can now be used for online education as well as traditional educational methods.

1 The Application of Fun Teaching in Phonetic Teaching

In the process of learning English, we deeply realize that pronunciation plays a crucial role on this basis. If the phonetic foundation is not strong, it will be difficult to pronounce words, sometimes there may be pronunciation errors, and sometimes even incorrect pronunciation, which will bring difficulties to word memory. It has also become one of the biggest obstacles in learning. This also applies to teaching Chinese as a foreign language. When teaching foreign students how to learn Chinese characters, phonetic teaching is also an indispensable part. Phonetic teaching is the starting point and starting point for cultivating international Chinese listening and speaking abilities, as well as the key to cultivating foreign students' learning of Chinese characters. It can also combine specific forms with possible corresponding sounds. Through repeated practice, we can establish strong connections in the advanced nervous system of the brain, allowing students to understand sound by observing its shape and remember its form by listening to it. Ensure consistency between pronunciation and writing, achieving a harmonious and unified state. Due to the monotony of language learning, adopting a gamified approach can achieve better results.

2、 The Application of Fun Teaching Method in Vocabulary Teaching

Vocabulary is the cornerstone of language, and a lack of rich vocabulary can lead to difficulties in information exchange, thereby affecting the fluency of language communication. Therefore, accurately and appropriately expressing language in communication is crucial. In teaching Chinese as a foreign language, vocabulary teaching is regarded as the foundation of teaching, and the depth and breadth of students' vocabulary mastery directly affect their language skills. The Chinese vocabulary system is vast and complex, with the smallest language unit being morphemes rather than words, making it difficult for foreign students to understand, use, and remember Chinese vocabulary. To make learning more interesting, you can try using some creative game methods to stimulate students' enthusiasm for learning.

The Application of Three Fun Teaching Methods in Grammar Teaching 

There are differences in teaching Chinese as a second language compared to grammar classes in teaching native Chinese and foreign languages. Teaching Chinese as a foreign language has always been of great concern, and grammar teaching, as an important component, has also attracted widespread attention. Grammar teaching is often considered abstract and tedious. Through creative teaching methods, it is possible to stimulate students' rich imagination.

4、 Several interesting teaching methods

1) Gameplay

By incorporating game elements into teaching Chinese as a foreign language, it can enhance learners' interest in learning and stimulate their enthusiasm for learning. Through games, learners can engage in oral practice in a relaxed atmosphere, enhancing their learning initiative and enthusiasm. 

Five body throwing: Place five different Chinese character cards on the floor, and then ask the teacher to pronounce each Chinese character. Students should use a part of their body to paste it into the corresponding Chinese characters. If all five Chinese characters match correctly, it is considered successful.

Oral transmission: This is a method of testing learning effectiveness before the end of the classroom. Divide students into small groups and secretly inform the first student in each group of a new word or phrase learned in this lesson. After the teacher issues the command, the first student whispers it to the next student, and so on, the group that completes the transmission first and takes the shortest time will become the winner.

 

Treasure Chest

A large pocket, or a large box with a mouth, containing some small statues, toys, etc. related to the learning of this lesson, such as a pencil case, bookmark, pen, backpack, eraser, toy monkey, cartoon doll, etc.

 

Put different items used to connect words into cloth bags or cardboard boxes.

2. Each round, invite one student to come over and let them reach into a cloth bag or cardboard box to touch something. Make sure they cannot see the items in the bag, while other students can see them, adding to the fun of the game.

3. The teacher or other classmates together ask him: What is this? Students who reach out to touch answer with "yes..." based on their tactile judgment.

1. "Old bottled new wine" refers to using the pronunciation and form of Chinese words to add new meanings. The word "cup container" originates from the basic vocabulary of modern Chinese, meaning unfortunate things; Similarly, "tableware" originates from the basic vocabulary, indicating the utensils needed for dining; For another example, "Weibo" is derived from the basic vocabulary, representing the ornaments used to protect the neck, and in the Internet era, it refers to microblogging.

2. "New bottled new wine" refers to using existing words or phrases to create new words by changing one of them. For example, "garlic you are ruthless" is equivalent to "identifying you as ruthless", "bean you play" is equivalent to "teasing you play", "ginger you army" can be understood as "leading your army", and so on. 

3. Using foreign languages, especially homophones in English vocabulary, to create words. Such as "fans", "dog belt", etc.

4. In addition, there are also methods such as digital homophones and polyphonic homophones. 

Why are there so many homophones in Chinese?

Advocate for "understanding" rather than expressing it explicitly; At the same time, there are a large number of homophones in Chinese. Although homophones can easily cause ambiguity and affect the smooth progress of oral communication, the appropriate use of homophones can create some special expression effects and fully demonstrate the special relationship between language sounds and meanings. For example, Xiehouyu extensively uses homophones. Sometimes netizens use homophonic words simply to vent their emotions. Conveying emotions through subtle facial expressions not only releases emotions, but also has a humorous and profound expression effect.

Chinese culture emphasizes "elasticity" rather than "rigidity". Homophonic borrowing of pre-existing sounds, applying their forms, puns, precisely reflects this kind of elasticity. This elasticity is also reflected in its flexible form and flexible meaning changes. The deeper reason for the popularity of homophones comes from the way of thinking of "analogy". "Class" refers to analogy, while "comparison" refers to comparison, metaphor, and metaphor. Analogy is a method of character creation used to create over 90% of the phonetic characters in Chinese characters. The form part is "class", and the sound part is "comparison". Homophones are also a form of borrowing, where the false "form" borrows "sound" to connect two unrelated things. Through borrowing, a large number of homophonic words emerge endlessly.

In summary, homophonic words on the internet are in line with elements such as "implication", "elasticity", and "analogy" in Chinese culture, and therefore emerge endlessly. Homophonic words should be used with caution, as their purpose is to efficiently convey information; If the context is ignored and indiscriminately applied, communication effectiveness will be hindered.

3 Imagination method based on pictures

The game methods listed above not only stimulate learning interest, but also promote communication and interaction among learners. Through elements such as cooperation and competition in the game, learners can actively participate, improve their learning motivation, and better execute learning tasks. Currently, the teaching mode of Chinese as a foreign language mostly relies on traditional teaching methods, with teachers teaching and students receiving knowledge as the main focus. Although this teaching mode has a certain impact, it often leads to a dull and rigid classroom atmosphere, lacking flexibility. Students show a certain degree of passivity in absorbing Chinese knowledge, and their thinking activity and innovation ability urgently need to be improved. At present, learners' thinking is still limited to fixed thinking patterns, and the teaching effectiveness is naturally unsatisfactory. However, the infinite charm of games has an unusual attraction for everyone. If cleverly integrated into the practice of teaching Chinese as a foreign language, it will greatly stimulate the enthusiasm of learners to explore the language, meet their emotional learning needs, and awaken the internal drive for active learning, effectively promoting the improvement of learning outcomes. The application of games not only helps to break the monotony of the classroom atmosphere, endow the learning process with more fun, but also ensures effective mastery of knowledge points, achieving a win-win situation between teaching and learning. In addition, it also provides learners with a joyful experience, allowing them to achieve a state of physical and mental relaxation in a relaxed and enjoyable way. The most obvious characteristics of games may be fun and fun, which runs through the entire gaming process and serves as the foundation for the game to play other roles. Whether it is reducing stress, restoring energy, or stimulating interest, it is closely related to psychological pleasure. Carrying out classroom game activities can help alleviate students' learning pressure, stimulate their enthusiasm for seeking knowledge, and make the process of mastering knowledge enjoyable rather than boring.. We have all had the experience of worrying about being asked questions by teachers during class, especially when learning a foreign language. This kind of worry can interfere with our learning effectiveness, making it difficult for us to concentrate on the lecture and instead distract our energy from worrying about being called out. When a person is in a unfamiliar and anxiety prone environment, it can reduce confidence and motivation. If the entire 50 minute class is like this, students will inevitably feel intimidated by this type of course and may even develop a sense of aversion to learning. The two aspects we mentioned earlier are both indirect impacts brought about by classroom teaching, while the last aspect directly affects the effectiveness of classroom teaching. Games, as an interactive way, have unique effectiveness in consolidating learned knowledge and exploring new knowledge.

5、 Conclusion

In the process of teaching Chinese overseas, the integration of entertainment principles runs through many levels. Using interesting teaching methods in the classroom can be approached from multiple perspectives, and teachers need to design inclusive teaching methods based on actual situations and teaching content. In the rapid progress of international Chinese language education, the principle of "learning happily" is increasingly being respected. The use of educational entertainment has been proven to improve teaching efficiency.
